Kyrgyzstan

A mountain republic where the Tian Shan range fills the horizon and horses still matter more than highways. Kyrgyzstan keeps nomadic traditions alive around the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul.

WHAT THE FLAG MEANS ◢

A red field with a golden sun at the centre, its disc crossed by the red lines of a tunduk, the crown of a Kyrgyz yurt. The constitution provides only that the state symbols exist and that their description and official use are established by law, so it neither counts the rays nor says what any of it means. The forty rays are conventionally read as the forty tribes united by the hero Manas, and the tunduk as home and the nation's roots.
