WHAT THE FLAG MEANS â—¢
Two horizontal bands of blue over red bearing the national coat of arms on a central white panel: a palm tree, cannons and the motto 'L'Union Fait La Force'. The flag was made by removing the white from the French tricolour; blue and red are traditionally read as the union of the nation's Black and mixed-race citizens.
