Kuwait

A small, oil-rich country at the head of the Persian Gulf, Kuwait turns desert heat up to extremes and its skyline into a showcase. Its landmark Towers have watched over the bay since 1979.

WHAT THE FLAG MEANS ◢

A horizontal tricolour of green, white and red with a black trapezoid at the hoist, the Pan-Arab colours. Article 5 of the constitution provides only that the law shall describe the flag, assigning it no meaning. The four colours are conventionally read through a line of classical Arabic verse, with green for the fertile land, white for the purity of deeds, red for the blood on the swords and black for the battlefields.
