Suriname
The smallest sovereign country in South America, Suriname is a Dutch-speaking outlier where rainforest blankets most of the land and cultures from four continents share the same streets.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANSÂ â—˘
Five horizontal bands of green, white, red, white and green, the red band double the width of the greens and four times that of the whites, with a single yellow five-pointed star at the centre. The green is conventionally read for fertility and hope, the white for justice and freedom, the red for progress and love, and the star for the unity of the country's ethnic groups.
