Oman

Sitting on the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, Oman blends dramatic mountains, empty deserts and a long seafaring history, and stands out in the region for its distinctive white-and-gold forts.

WHAT THE FLAG MEANS ◢

A red vertical hoist band bearing the national emblem, a khanjar dagger sheathed and crossed with two swords, beside three horizontal bands of white, red and green. Article 4 of the Basic Law provides only that the law determines the flag, emblem, insignia and national anthem, so the constitutional instrument neither describes the flag nor assigns it a meaning. The white is conventionally read for peace and prosperity, the red for the country's battles and the green for fertility and the Jebel Akhdar highlands.
