Togo
A slender sliver of West Africa barely 100 kilometres wide, Togo stretches from an Atlantic shoreline up to the savanna, packing beaches, hills and bustling markets into a narrow frame.
WHAT THE FLAG MEANS ◢
Five horizontal stripes alternating green and yellow, with a red canton bearing a white five-pointed star. The constitution names the flag as the national emblem and describes it in exactly that way, assigning none of it a meaning. The green is conventionally read for agriculture and hope, the yellow for mineral wealth, the red for the blood of independence, and the white star for purity.
